Upcoming JCSG Retreats & Events
Dear Friends of the Jesuit Center,
It is with profound sadness that I share with you the news that Fr. Robert M. Hussey, SJ, the Provincial of the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus, has decided to close the Jesuit Center for Spiritual Growth, effective August 2021. Fr. Hussey announced his decision on 29 May 2020 in a letter to the Province. You may click to read Fr. Hussey’s letter, accompanying FAQs, and my letter of response.
While we are sorrowful at the decision, our trustees and staff are focused on the remaining time of ministry here in Wernersville. The Center will be open through August 2021, offering retreats, days of prayer and other opportunities for prayer and spiritual renewal, and hosting groups as public health allows. You can see our 2020-2021 program calendar here. (Check back often for updates.)
Due to Covid-19, the Jesuit Center remains closed to all retreatants and guests through 28 June 2020. Masses at the Jesuit Center are also closed to the public. Staff spiritual directors are meeting with directees via telecommunication. While the public may not access the building, we do permit some people to walk the grounds. If you would like to walk on the property, please contact our Facilities Director, Fr. Tom Kuller, SJ, at 610-670-3601 for permission.

Our staff is currently planning a staged re-opening of the Center to begin at the end of June. Our registrar, Melinda Leonowitz, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 610-670-3642; her assistant, Andrew Dotter, at email@example.com or 610-670-3655; and our coordinator of hosted groups, Alisha Forcinio, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 610-670-3668 are reaching out to retreatants and groups regarding reservations and deposits. We will soon announce protocols and procedures for retreatants, as well as opportunities to participate in retreats via Zoom.
During the COVID-19 crisis, we offered “As Certain as the Dawn,” a weekly series of reflections by our staff and resident Jesuits, accompanied by pictures of the Jesuit Center’s grounds in springtime. These reflections and photos are archived here.
As you pray with and process the news about the decision to close the Jesuit Center, please know that we pray with and for you. May the Spirit of God continue to enliven all of us through the coming year, focusing and intensifying our gratitude for the wonderful gift of this “house of bread” and the men and women who have served and continue to serve here. St. Ignatius Loyola—pray for us.
